Why you're popping pimples....at 35
I can't tell you how many clients I see every week with acne. And no, these clients are not teenagers. The instance of adult acne is on the rise. Why on earth would a woman who is 40 years old and never had acne before come to see me for a facial reporting recurring acne breakouts?
Here's the deal. More and more adults are seeing acne breakouts for several reasons.
1. Improper in cleansing routine. As an adult, you can't use products made for teen skin. You new products that will help cleanse and properly manage adult skin.
2. You don't exfoliate enough or you over exfoliate. Your skin cells die off regularly an if you don't remove them from the skin's surface, you end up with dead skin cells and bacteria in your pores which equals a breeding ground for acne!
3. You're way too stressed. When stress levels increase, your hormones go out of whack. And an imbalance in hormones triggers acne, amongst other health issues.
4. Your diet. Eating a diet high in sugar and diary creates hormone fluctuations which in turn creates a breeding ground for acne.
5. The products you use at home are alcohol based. Yes, that acne kit you got off of TV is nothing but alcohol and soap. It may have cleared your skin initially, but what really happened is that your dried your oil glands and the second you stop using that cleanser, your pores will erupt with oil!
There are many ways to help clear and manage acne. The key is to cleanse properly, use a light exfoliator, and moisturize!
Yes you can moisturize oily skin. Use an oil free moisturizer and your products should be non-comodegnic which means they don't clog pores. Use a gel cleanser and your exfoliator should have a rice extract or jojoba beads. Your products should also have antiinflammatory ingredients like chamomile, calendula, and honey.
And most importantly DON'T pop any pimples on your own! Doing this improperly leads to scars and dark spots. Let a licensed skin care professional help you choose the correct home care products and give you a treatment to calm, clear, and brighten your skin!

Lashes..You get what you pay for
The lash craze has completely taken over! Lashes are fun and flirty and can add a little flair to your look. But are you going to the right professional to help you with your lash application? Here are a few tips to finding the right lash specialist for you.
1. Lash extension training costs anywhere from $250- $1500. Through training, the specialist is required to do a certain amount of lash applications successfully for certification and learn safety precautions, sanitation procedures, and what to do if a reaction occurs, as well as proper removal techniques. Check and see if the person applying your lashes has done any certification training.
2. After paying a significant amount of money for training and supplies, a properly trained lash specialist would not charge $25-$35 for individual lash application. This is a sign that the person applying your lashes may not have had proper training.
3. Make sure your lash specialist gives you aftercare procedures and talks with you about how to properly remove your lashes.
4. Using hair bonding glue as lash adhesive is a no-no!!!
5. Make sure your lash specialist helps with reapplications and touch ups.
When your lashes are applied, they should look natural. I have seen women with individual lash extensions that look like caterpillars on their lash line. If applied correctly, each individual extension is adhered to an individual eye lash which gives you a natural look.
In the pic above, there is too much glue at the lash line. You should be able to see your individual lashes when applied correctly.
In this picture, the lash extensions are more natural. This is what your lashes should look like when applied correctly.
Keep in mind, cheap is not always best. I'm always looking for a good deal, but when it comes to lash application, often times you will get what you pay for.
To find a lash extension specialist, check out your local licensed cosmetologist or esthetician. In most states, there is no regulation for lash extension applications, but most training requirements only accept individuals with cosmetology or esthetic licenses.

Relaxtion 2014
With the world being so fast paced, I'm not sure most people nowadays know the definition of relaxation. To relax means different things to different people, but at the heart of it, the term means defines the ability to slow down and rest for even just a moment.
As and Esthetician, I work hard to provide the right environment for my clients to relax. I try to engage their senses with aromatherapy, calming colors, soft blankets and sheets, and calming music. As far as I see it, I set the stage for one hour of pure bliss. But that is often interrupted by clients who simply do not know how to relax.
Sure, many of my clients slide in on their lunch break for a facial or for brow waxing. Or they have just fought Atlanta traffic to get their appointment after work. I understand being a bit frazzled in the beginning. So I make sure the room is comfortable, we have a little conversation as I begin working, and then I turn the music up and the lights down. Most of the time, one I begin the facial or decollate massage, my clients get the point that they should relax and enjoy a bit of "me" time. But there are those few that even with all of that, still can not calm down. They are anxiously awaiting a phone call or even more rudely, they answer the phone in the middle of a session.
When I first started, this was a bit offensive to me. I work hard to provide the entire experience. I began to realize that not everyone understands the concept of relaxation and what may be relaxing to me may not be to the next person.
So I have started to set a few ground rules for my treatment room. When my clients come in, I ask them to turn off their phone or turn it on vibrate. If they get into the facial bed still clutching the phone, I offer to put it aside for them. I explain to my clients that they need only give themselves 45 minutes out of their busy schedule to focus on themselves and disconnecting from electronics and social media will allow them to relax and truly enjoy the service they are paying for.
So far, it's working to break it down like that. I feel like my clients deserve my undivided attention and I give them 100%. I would love for them to do the same for me and for themselves!
Relax people. If you do, it won't be the end of the world!!
Peace and Blessings,
Tamara
